The FIMA 2018 – Festival Internacional de Música do Algarve presents “Between the Pop and the Scholar”, with the Orquestra Clássica do Sul directed by its Titular Conductor Rui Pinheiro and with the soloist Paulo Gaio Lima.
F. Gulda's “Cello Concert” is one of his most iconic works, revealing the dichotomy of his artistic career - on one hand one of the most respected classical pianists, on the other an extraordinary jazz musician who has partnered with Chick Corea, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and who wrote works like the “Variations for Piano on a Theme of the ‘Doors'”!
In this concert we find, simultaneously, "classical" sonorities (which could have been written by Mozart), combined with sonorities so characteristic of Rock and Jazz! An orchestra divided in two: a classical one, with the elegance of the woodwinds and the cello, and a ‘jazz combo’, with guitar, electric bass and drums.
